British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) The Requirement Joint Action, the fundraising arm of the BOA, needed a web-based system to support their new Membership and security initiative, the Orthocard. This card confirms an individual’s Orthopaedic implant, and consequently eases passage through security screens. In addition, members and supporters were to have the option to register and donate online via the website. The fully featured marketing database and website was then to capture the data for back office processing and facilitate further fundraising activity. Budgetary constraints necessitated a tailored modular system and phased implementation. The Solution Phase 1 Two broad modules were provided, the “Caboodle” CRM and the CMS systems. The CRM system had several bespoke features added. The registration system was modified to cater for OrthocardTM applicants and their verification. Additional features were provided for triggering rapid response mailings of Welcome Packs to new registerees. Standard features of the CRM system included a supporter’s private area. Here communication with supporters was facilitated in a very personal and confidential way. Information was linked to specific gifts they had made and campaigns they had supported thereby allowing deeper relationships with supporters to be developed. Supporter data can be segmented and used for future campaigns. Multi-channel marketing was facilitated. The CMS solution provided makes managing the website both quick and easy by client-based non-specialist authors and editors. The features provided are comprehensive and include, WYSIWYG interface, a media library, video and audio inserts, Word document cut and paste and multi user and user group capability. The database was web enabled providing for multi-location access and low IT support costs. Phase 2 British Orthopaedic Association, through Joint Action, supports many vital orthopaedic research programmes each year. A user-driven web-based application for managing this research grant system was provided that gave far greater financial control and reduced paper work to effectively zero. More grant applications are now considered in a much more efficient way. Features include, application scoring and processing, project monitoring and budgetary control.
